Spooky Halloween Dinner Party with Cricut and Martha Stewart

Grab your ghouls and ghoul-friends because this Spooky Halloween Dinner Party is one they won’t want to miss! If you’re looking for a casual way to celebrate Halloween with your friends, this ghastly gathering is for you!

Spooky Halloween Dinner Party #CricutMarthaStewart #ad #MadeWithMichaels #CricutMade #Cricut.jpg

If you’ve been to Michaels lately, you’ve probably seen Martha Stewart’s line of “Celebrations” party goodies. There are more than 10 themes available on the Michaels shelves, including a brand new Halloween line!

The new line is eerily awesome, and full of spooktacular pieces! Mix and match your favorites to create a hauntingly horrific Halloween get-together for you and your best pals!

For this frightening feast, we used the skull & snake pieces, then built around that. Some of my favorite elements are the placemats, which are really fun and add cool visual interest to the table, and I loooove the dimensional bats!!! Don’t they look so awesome flying up the wall?

Each place setting consisted of a Martha Stewart placemat, skull plate, skull & snake napkin, and a skull cup. I used black and white ribbon that I had on hand to secure the cutlery together, then topped it with a skull toy to tie in with the Martha goodies and add some dimension.

To create the centerpiece, I draped some shear black fabric down the center of the table. A mix of candles, lanterns, pumpkins, leaves, and pinecones were displayed sporadically down the table to add a little dose of color and a warm glow.

The focal point of the Halloween Dinner Party was the fang-tastic backdrop. I pulled out an old large frame that I’d picked up from a thrift store years ago, propped it onto the table, then draped the Martha “Happy Halloween” banner across it. I adhered those fabulous little bats to the wall around one side of the frame, then hung some mesh gold-flecked pom-poms to the other side to balance out the look. Who knew that a backdrop could look so classy but chilling at the same time?

The natural elements and candles were carried over to the favor table to create a cohesive look.

I fell in love with the little “toxic” favor bottles in the Martha line, and had to incorporate them into the party. Aren’t they fun?!! Fill them with tiny treats for your guests to take home…such an easy favor idea!

I wanted the snake bags to have a gold element to help tie them into the rest of the decor, so they got a little jazzing up, thanks to my Cricut® Explore Air™ 2 Special Edition, Martha Stewart Machine Bundle, available only at Michaels.

I’m all about adding personalized touches to things, and I absolutely love how I can use the Martha machine to personalize my celebrations!

The Martha Bundle includes 25 exclusive Martha Stewart Projects, and this exclusive skull image is one of them. There are thousands of additional images and projects available in Cricut’s Design Space, and you can totally add/create your own images, too, if that’s your thing. SO many possibilities!!!

Spooky Halloween Dinner Party #CricutMarthaStewart #ad #MadeWithMichaels #CricutMade #Cricut.jpg

To add the skull to the favor bag, I used Gold Cricut Foil Iron-On. You could totally use Cricut Adhesive Foil, if you prefer, but the iron-on is what I had on hand. The machine can cut over 100 materials, so really, the sky is the limit! ;)

Spooky Halloween Dinner Party #CricutMarthaStewart #ad #MadeWithMichaels #CricutMade #Cricut.jpg

To get the most perfect cut, set the Smart Set Dial on that beautiful pearlized machine to “Custom” and choose the exact material that you will be cutting. For this project, we chose “Foil-Iron-On.”

When working with iron on, be sure to place the material shiny-side-down on the mat, and make sure to click “mirror image” prior to cutting.

Once the images are cut, use the weeding tool that is included with the bundle to weed away the negative vinyl.

Spooky Halloween Dinner Party #CricutMarthaStewart #ad #MadeWithMichaels #CricutMade #Cricut.jpg

To adhere the iron-on to the favor bag, I used my Cricut EasyPress2. If you don’t have an EasyPress, you can use an iron, but the EasyPress is ideal for setting the perfect temperature and providing even heat distribution. There is a waxy finish on the bag, so place an old, thin napkin or piece of fabric over it so that it doesn’t stick to your EP2 or iron.

Preheat the bag for about 5 seconds, then position the carrier sheet onto the bag, foil-side-down. Heat according to this guide (because I used an EasyPress Mat, my recommended settings were 295 degrees for 30 seconds). Flip the bag over and heat the back side for an additional 15 seconds.

Peel the carrier sheet away.

So cool, right? I love how that simple little project really elevated the look of the bags to the next level. Look how nicely it complements the banner now!

A DIY Throw Blanket Using the Cricut Maker

A DIY Throw Blanket Using the Cricut Maker

When I was browsing through JoAnn the other day, I came across this plaid throw that was too pretty to pass up.  It's so soft!

As I continued to mosey through the store, I found a gray polka-dotted flannel that looked so good with the blanket, so of course my wheels started spinning.

I am NOT a seamstress, so sewing anything together was completely out of the question.  BUT, I do know how to use Heat 'n Bond.  And I do happen to have a Cricut Maker that can precisely cut the fabric and bonding for me...

...so that, my friends, is how this DIY Throw Blanket using the Cricut Maker was born...without having to sew a stitch!
